Chapter 4

“What do you got for me?” Stone asked The Greek.

“A lot of mixed up information, buddy, and I don’t like the feeling I have.”

“Shit, that’s exactly what I was afraid of. Maybe it’s not worth it to move forward on this. We don’t have confirmation on exactly who took out Gable and the team, or those other agents. Or why Gable and them were even there to begin with.”

“I know, Stone. It seems this is a lot bigger than we were told or that even our command knew. What I got so far was that there is some chatter that one of our own is negotiating with terrorists. That it’s been going on for a while, and an inner investigation has been underway for quite some time. I mean like five years.”

“Jesus, and they got nothing to make a move and remove this traitor?”

“I wouldn’t say that. Seems to be a bit political, and the number of people involved is double digits, so as you could imagine the plan to take them out is complicated. I also think that Gable and the team were not supposed to be there. That they were maybe sent in to be eliminated.”

“What the fuck? Who would do that? This person who is American?”

“It’s complicated, Stone. As is, I’m not feeling comfortable about sending any of our teams back over there, but I might not have a choice. There’s been some chatter about a location on an old name on the watch list. We’ve been wanting this guy for over twenty years. Hell, I would love this catch, or kill him myself.”

“Who the fuck is it?” Stone asked, his gut clenching.

“Fulzar.”

“Holy shit.”

“Exactly, Stone. So you get why it’s important I have concrete information on what exactly the target is and how to eliminate it without getting into some shit show situation. The fucking politicians couldn’t give a rat’s ass about Americans, and especially about our soldiers.”

“If they know so much about this traitor, and about Fulzar maybe reentering the scene, then why not just send teams in to take them out?” Stone asked.

“Not too long ago there was a similar situation. A spy, for lack of a better word to describe them, was inside deep. Made a lot of contacts none of our teams or agents would have ever been able to make. She was good.”

“She?” Stone asked.

“Yes, that’s what I was told. Anyway, she got information that helped to destroy major players in the terrorist cell network. Even got some men like Kasmul and Volcher to cooperate and flip on major cells.”

“What happened to her?”

“Story amongst command was that she screwed up. Story amongst soldiers in the field, other agents I personally know, was that she risked her life, became a prisoner of Kasmul for the better part of six months, and in doing so saved multiple troops of soldiers, some undercover informants whose covers were blown, and prevented a triple simultaneous terrorist attack on U.S. soil. Something the higher-ups obviously didn’t want to leak.
